The covid-19 pandemic has provided the present platform within our national community to spotlight and rehearse other pandemics, such as racism, sexism, nationalism, classism, and all other forms of exceptionalist beliefs and behaviors that affect our health as a nation. Societal expectations of particular individuals to manage their personal health care has become prevalent. The power structure in America has purposely ignored Afro-Americans as human, and systematically disconnected other cultures of color.

Few people prepare for the “it just might happen to me” scenario. No one informs, takes meaningful time with our emerging youth, the in-laws, immediate family members, our friends, or religious cohorts to tell them that they might have to step in and fill a void until hospice arrives.
